Tony Khan Officially Announces New Title Match For AEW Redemption

AEW Redemption is the Tony Khan-led wrestling promotion’s next pay-per-view.

Scheduled to take place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on July 26, the event now has a total of 8 bouts following Saturday’s taping of Collision.

On July 18, Collision witnessed multiple matches, including three title defenses, where the defending champions successfully retained their titles.

Earlier in the night, AEW TNT Champion Kevin Knight faced AR Fox, whom he beat after successfully hitting a UFO Splash from the top turnbuckle. ‘The Jet’ is scheduled to defend his belt again on Dynamite next week against Darby Allin. He will then challenge Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship at Redemption.

In the second title defense, Ring of Honor World Champion Bandido defeated Adam Priest. After a confrontation between them last week, Kyle Fletcher will put his International Championship on the line against Bandido at Redemption.

The main event saw Hikaru Shida defend her TBS Championship against Queen Aminata after Aminata came to Harley Cameron’s aid during a post-match attack on last week’s Collision.

Hikaru Shida Vs. Maya World Announced For AEW Redemption

On Saturday, AEW TBS Champion Hikaru Shida was intent on punishing Queen Aminata for her interjection last week.

This was Aminata’s fourth attempt at winning her first TBS Championship, which was a tall ask for the Guinean superstar.

Aminata got off the blocks even before the bell rang, but missed a big kick. It then led to her and Shida trading heavy blows before Aminata found the opening.

As the bout progressed, Shida put on pressure with several impressive strikes and submissions. A Boston Crab submission ensured a deterioration in Aminata’s attacks, giving Shida the advantage back.

Despite falling victim to a few underhanded tactics, Aminata fought valiantly before getting rolled up by the champion for the victory. Unfortunately, the referee did not notice Shida’s feet on the ropes.

After the match, Shida introduced her kendo stick, attacking Aminata’s already injured knee. This prompted Maya World to run out and save her from further damage.

Later, Tony Khan took to his Twitter account to make the TBS Championship match official between Shida and World at AEW Redemption.
