Rey Mysterio Confirms WWE Star Will Miss Extended Time With Neck Injury

Rey Mysterio has confirmed that a popular luchador will be out of action for an extended duration.

Mysterio’s announcement regarding Octagon Jr. came during the July 18 edition of AAA Lucha Libre. Mysterio, who is the AAA General Manager, revealed that Octagon had suffered a neck injury and had a long road to recovery ahead of him.

The 35-year-old sustained the injury during Week 2 of Noche de Los Grandes, where he competed in a five-way #1 contender’s match for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship, then held by Laredo Kid.

During the bout, he endured a top-rope swinging DDT at the hands of Joaquin Wilde, which rendered him unable to compete further. After the match ended, he was stretchered out from the arena, following which he underwent surgery.

Last month, Octagon Jr. shared an Instagram post to address his injury, where he confirmed seeing a medical professional and thanked his fans for the support.

Rey Mysterio Announces Rehiring Of Andrea Bazarte

While Andrea Bazarte’s involvement in the feud between the El Grande Americanos was minimal, her firing from AAA Lucha Libre carried a significant weight.

In the lead-up to their Mask vs. Mask match at Noche de Los Grandes, the “Original” El Grande Americano (Chad Gable) demanded that Bazarte be released, blaming her for igniting the feud between him and El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser).

Her suspension felt personal because she is the real-life girlfriend of Kaiser, and Gable used her as a weapon to destabilize Kaiser’s momentum.

On last week’s AAA Lucha Libre taping, Rey Mysterio was featured in a press conference, where he was asked about Andrea Bazarte’s status.

Rey Mysterio claimed that her firing was unfortunate and invited her to attend the July 18 edition of the show.

Accepting the invitation, the 34-year-old shared an in-ring segment with Rey Mysterio, where the WWE Hall of Famer said that she did not deserve everything that happened to her.

He then claimed that he would like to make amends by offering her a new contract, which also included financial compensation.

In response, Bazarte shared her experience of her time in AAA Lucha Libre and of being part of the history-making Mask vs. Mask match at Noche de Los Grandes.

She also praised the Mexican fans for being some of the best wrestling fans around the world and gleefully accepted the new contract.
