Sami Zayn Issues Interesting Statement Ahead Of WWE Night Of Champions 2026
Ahead of his major title match at WWE Night of Champions 2026, Sami Zayn made an interesting statement.
Over the past few months, Sami Zayn has been a polarizing onscreen character, as he has done some questionable things but also claims to be the last real good guy. On a recent SmackDown episode, Sami was the special referee for the WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Gunther.
The match ended in a no-contest, as Sami flattened Gunther and also hit Cody with the title belt inadvertently after the match. The drama led to the announcement of a triple threat title match at Night of Champions 2026, as Rhodes will defend his title against both Gunther and Sami.
Ahead of the big triple threat title match in Saudi Arabia this weekend, ex-WWE writer, Freddie Prinze Jr. predicted that Sami Zayn will walk out the new WWE Champion while stating the following:
To me, the most obvious choice would have him beat Sami Zayn for that belt. You don’t want him to beat Gunther. You want to keep Gunther strong. You don’t want him to beat Cody. Cody’s the face of the company. He’s doing ice cream commercials where he bites it the wrong way.”
But that’s that’s what the face of the of the company has to do. So, I think he could see very ‘sneakily,’ it’s the word of the week,
come away with the victory. And I’m calling it right now. Sami Zayn gets the win in Riyadh and wins the WWE Championship.”
Sami Zayn on potential fan reaction if he wins the WWE Championship
Speaking with Fox News Digital, Sami Zayn said that he isn’t sure how fans would react if he wins the WWE Championship at Night of Champions 2026, as he is a polarizing onscreen character right now:
I don’t know how the fans would react, honestly. I hope they would enjoy it. But you never know because my character right now is a little polarizing. So you truly don’t know. I don’t know.”
Sami also stated that him winning the WWE title for the first time ever will be a big cultural moment:
I think there’s a lot of cultural and historical significance that would maybe hit me after the fact [that I’ve won the title]. From a sentimental point of view, for sure, it’d be kind of awesome. I think it would be a big cultural moment.” [h/t ewrestlingnews.com]
