Real Reason MJF Plans On Staying With AEW

MJF holds court on AEW TV

MJF wanted to be the subject of a huge wrestling bidding war, but now he’s revealed why he wants to stay exactly where he is in AEW.

Once upon a time, MJF was open about wanting a bidding war in 2024 between AEW and WWE over his services. But that was scrapped before 2024 even began, when it emerged that The Salt of the Earth had signed a new, long-term deal with AEW.

Now in 2026, MJF stands atop Tony Khan’s mountain as AEW Men’s World Champion, although he’ll face his toughest test to keep that gold when he defends his title against Hangman Adam Page at Revolution.

But does MJF still want to test the waters of WWE?

MJF Happy To Stick With AEW

Speaking to ABC-7 sports director Adrian Ochoa on KVIA, MJF explained what keeps him in AEW is the freedom he gets to be his true, obnoxious self:

What keeps me in AEW is my ability to be myself; there’s no leash on me. I don’t have to worry about anyone sitting me down and telling me what I am doing right or wrong.

My boss knows I am the draw. I have the world title right now. Ratings are up, ticket sales are up. I wonder why? He lets me do my thing. So, I don’t think I’ll ever leave.

Elsewhere in the interview, MJF also took a shot at WWE over their ever-increasing ticket prices for shows.
