Possible Spoiler On CM Punk’s Future Outside WWE
CM Punk’s potential future direction outside the WWE may have been revealed.
CM Punk has been a part of the wrestling business since 1997. After gaining prominence on the independent wrestling scene, Punk joined the WWE in 2005. He achieved great success during his first run, winning multiple world titles while showcasing some of the greatest promo work. In 2014, however, Punk walked away from the Stamford-based promotion and later ventured into MMA by joining UFC.
Unfortunately, CM Punk’s UFC career was not so memorable as he finished up with a 0-1-0 record. Following years of absence, Punk returned to pro wrestling through AEW in 2021, and he eventually returned to the WWE in 2023, where he is enjoying a great second run. Meanwhile, Punk’s wife, AJ Lee gave a possible spoiler on his future after pro wrestling.
Speaking on State of Mind with Maurice Benard, AJ Lee disclosed that CM Punk wanted to try fighting in UFC again, and she is always ready to help her husband with his dreams:
He [Punk] was like, ‘We need to try this [fighting in UFC] again.’ I think he can do anything. I always go by the rule of like, ‘It’s your life, it’s my life. I’m going to help you [with] whatever your crazy dream is,’ and then we don’t hold each other down. It’s like, how do I help you fly? (…) I want him to be the safest, healthiest,” Lee revealed. WWE is reportedly planning a big change for CM Punk ahead of his return
Since losing his World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42, CM Punk has been out of action and last appeared on the RAW after Mania. Amid Punk’s absence, Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that WWE is planning to have Punk return on SmackDown to balance the star power with RAW. Punk vs Cody Rhodes is reportedly a direction as well:
The plan right now is for him to return on Smackdown, which is basically a balancing act. The belief is with Raw having Reigns, Rollins, The Usos, Fatu, Femi, Logan Paul and Breakker that Punk made more sense on Smackdown with a top tier of Rhodes, Gunther, Ripley and soon to be Punk, Orton and McIntyre. Plus Rhodes vs. Punk has been a direction.”
Meltzer also noted that Punk’s return on the 6th of July episode of RAW makes sense, as it will take place in his hometown of Chicago.
