Nikki Bella is going through a rough patch.

Bella suffered a severe left ankle injury (torn, sprained, and fractured) on the March 27, 2026, episode of Friday Night SmackDown during an exchange with Charlotte Flair. She had to undergo surgery two weeks before WrestleMania 42 to repair the damage.

Due to the injury and subsequent surgery, she was forced to sit out WrestleMania 42. For a scheduled tag match, she was replaced by returning star Paige, who teamed up with Brie Bella and went on to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Nikki Bella Wants To Turn Heel

Earlier this year, Nikki Bella stated that this was going to be her last run in WWE. Speaking on a recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki said that she wants to do her last WWE run as a heel because she doesn’t like being a babyface. This might be a hint that she is planning to turn heel after she returns to action.

“I just want to do my last run as a heel. I don’t wanna be a babyface—I don’t like being a babyface. It’s very hard. I want character work, and I wanna be a heel.”

Nikki Bella also recently cleared up some rumors on her podcast, stating that Nia Jax did not injure her on SmackDown, but rather helped her through the post-match segment.

What I want to clear up, because at first Nia had gotten a lot of heat online, she actually helped me. When it came to the end of the match, and the girls had to take us out, I knew at that point I couldn’t even put weight on my foot. I was in so much pain, I was like ‘Oh gosh, this is really bad.’

I knew what was about to happen, so when she came to take me out, I looked at her and I go ‘Please no, my foot hurts so bad.’ She goes ‘Wait, what?’ I’m like ‘I can’t get thrown out, I need to step out.’ So she helped me step out, but people made out like she injured me. No, Nia actually really helped me in that moment.
