More Details Revealed About TKO Executives Having WWE Creative Control
The latest update disclosed more details regarding the TKO executives having creative control in the WWE. The report also shed light on when the executives use their control.
One of the biggest news stories in the world of pro wrestling broke in 2023 that the TKO group holdings has acquired the WWE. The deal went down by merging the Stamford-based promotion and UFC, which was owned by Endeavour. The TKO executives, Ari Emanuel and Mark Shapiro are now considered the owners of the Sports Entertainment Juggernaut with Nick Khan being the CEO, and Triple H being the CCO and creative head.
It was recently implied by Mark Shapiro that TKO has complete control over the WWE creative. Ever since Shapiro’s statement, fans and people within the wrestling community have been speculating whether the executives have been interfering in the creative process headed by Triple H. Meanwhile, there are more details regarding the TKO group having complete creative control in the company.
Dave Meltzer provided details about TKO having the WWE’s creative control
In the most recent issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that while Ari Emanuel and Mark Shapiro of TKO do have the final say in terms of the WWE creative, they barely use it. Dave also noted how Emanuel and Shapiro used their creative control by inserting Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll in the WrestleMania 42 feud between Cody Rhodes and Randy orton:
It was noted to us that in the end, Emanuel and Shapiro do have the final say in creative, but they almost never use it. It was said that in this situation, they used it at the most inopportune time. There was a ton of chaos regarding those on the wrestling side who didn’t want the McAfee and Jelly Roll involvement in a world title match they had been slowly building for months and how the celebrities took the focus away.”
Meltzer further reported how there is an internal dispute between TKO executives and the creative team, as there are complaints that Ari Emanuel and Mark Shapiro use their creative control at the worst time:
One person noted seeing the TKO Executives vs. WWE creative team battle coming for a year and said there was a lot of internal jockeying going on and that it was encouraged by Ari Emanuel and Shapiro. It was noted to us that everyone acknowledges that at the end of the day, they have complete control, but they rarely use it and the complaint this year was that when they use it it’s at the worst time.”
