Mick Foley Says He Was “Hurt” By WWE Cutting Zelina Vega From MSG Smackdown

Zelina Vega was originally going to be on last week’s Smackdown from Madison Square Garden, but the match was pulled and Mick Foley has shared his disappointment about that.

Smackdown took place from Madison Square Garden in New York City last Friday and it was heralded as one of the best Smackdown episodes of the year. Brock Lesnar was cheered by the NYC faithful, Seth Rollins beat Edge in the match of the night and Finn Balor returned as the “Demon” to confront Roman Reigns to end the show.

There were plans for two more segments that didn’t happen, according to Fightful Select.

A tag team match between the heel side of Carmella & Zelina Vega facing the babyface team of Liv Morgan & Toni Storm was supposed to happen, but it was cut while the show was going on. There was another segment between “Happy” Baron Corbin and Kevin Owens that was also cut.

Since the show aired, Liv Morgan and Carmella tweeted ellipses while Vega tweeted “nevermind” while showing images of the gear she planned to wear that night.

Zelina Vega was hoping to be on the show because her father died on September 11, 2001 when the World Trade Center was attacked by two planes that flew into the buildings. Nearly 3,000 people died that day. Vega’s family is from New York City. Vega was just ten years old when her father died.

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley expressed his sadness on Twitter after he learned that a Vega match was cut from the show.

Mick Foley has been vocal against WWE’s creative team of late noting “We’ve Got A Problem” on his Facebook page. Foley has also tried to offer ideas on how WWE can improve the creative process by working on things line continuity moving forward.

Zelina Vega returned to WWE in July 2021 after leaving the company in November 2020 over a dispute about Twitch among other things. Vega has yet to win a match since she returned to WWE.
