It seems Matt Riddle had caused one too many headaches in WWE resulting in his release.

Following a spate of releases from the WWE roster on September 21st, the bad news continued as Matt Riddle confirmed he was no longer part of the company.

Riddle joined the likes of former World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler, Shelton Benjamin, Dana Brooke, and many others in leaving WWE less than two weeks after the sports entertainment giant was acquired by Endeavor. However, it seems there may have been more behind Riddle’s release.

Why was Matt Riddle released by WWE?

Fightful Select has now given more insight into Riddle’s release from the company and noted that he hadn’t been backstage at WWE and was never planned to be part of Raw on the 18th of September.

Matt Riddle had been missing from the company ever since he alleged he had been sexually assaulted by a Port Authority officer at JFK airport. Reports had then surfaced that Riddle had been spoken to by officers in relation to claims that he had been acting unruly but a Port Authority investigation has been launched in relation to his claims.

The former US Champion was not factored into immediate creative plans in the company but interestingly, a “higher up” in the company said that he had “burned through too many chances” in WWE.
