Kenny Omega could be part of a huge match at the AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door II pay-per-view in his home country of Canada.

At the AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in June 2022, there were several big matches including Jon Moxley beating Hiroshi Tanahashi to become the Interim AEW World Champion in the main event.

When AEW & NJPW planned the event, they probably thought that former AEW & IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega would be on the card due to his success in NJPW and his status in AEW as one of the company’s biggest stars. However, Kenny was out with a lengthy injury last June and wasn’t on the show.

It was announced earlier this week that the 2023 edition of AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door will take place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Sunday, June 25th. It will be the first AEW PPV outside of the US.

While Kenny Omega is a former AEW World Champion, Tag Team Champion and Trios Tag Team Champion (twice), he is also the current NJPW US Champion, which means he should be featured prominently on the Forbidden Door II card.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that there have already been discussions about Omega’s match at Forbidden Door 2023.

“We also know that at one point there was hope Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay II would be at Forbidden Door. This was never official past we were told before the Tokyo Dome that they were working with the idea of two matches, WrestleKingdom and Forbidden Door. And we don’t know the situation with Ospreay’s injury. But it will be interesting what kind of a number this show can do. Toronto is traditionally one of the best wrestling markets in the world.”

At Wrestle Kingdom 17 this past January, Omega beat Ospreay to win the NJPW US Title in an outstanding match that earned a lot of praise from fans.

Will Ospreay has wrestled in AEW many times while remaining under contract with NJPW. Ospreay suffered a shoulder injury earlier this week and it’s not known how much time he’ll miss.

Kenny Omega was in action on AEW Dynamite this past Wednesday as his team known as The Elite (Kenny and The Young Bucks) lost to the Trios Tag Team Champions House of Black in a match that also featured Jericho Appreciation Society (Chris Jericho, Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara). It was AEW’s debut show in Omega and Jericho’s hometown of Winnipeg.
