A legendary wrestler shared some insight into how Cody Rhodes really feels about being a top guy in WWE.

Cody Rhodes is a former 3-time WWE Champion who has been in the ring with the biggest names in WWE over the last four years, and he’s established himself as a WWE legend.

In many interviews and even on WWE television, Rhodes likes to refer to himself as QB1. That’s a reference to American football and the all-important quarterback position, the team’s leader.

Since Rhodes won the WWE Title for the first time at WrestleMania 40 in 2024, he has been positioned as the top babyface in WWE, and it’s a role he’s done very well at.

While there are always going to be people suggesting that Cody Rhodes needs a heel turn, it’s a different story in the arena where fans sing “Kingdom” and cheer for him a lot, while also buying his merchandise as much as anybody in the company.

Diamond Dallas Page is a WWE Hall of Famer and former WCW World Champion who knows Cody well since Cody’s father, Dusty Rhodes, was a mentor to DDP, and DDP has been close with the family for decades.

In an interview with Wrestling Life Online, DDP opened up about Cody’s role in WWE as the top babyface, similar to what John Cena was for many years. According to DDP, it’s a role that Cody seems to love.

“They love you, and then they hate you, or they just wanna f**k with you. It’s like with Roman and John Cena, now Cody’s feeling a little bit of that too.

“John Cena gave him a really good piece of advice. He told (him) ‘Just be you.’ Because that’s the person: if someone says he’s gonna do something, that’s the guy who’s going to follow up on it, and he’s not going to appease you.

“I’m really excited to see what he’s done since that, and the journey he’s been on, being in that spot where you are carrying the company on your back. He loves it.” (H/T Wrestletalk)

Cody Rhodes To Appear on WWE SmackDown

The post-Night of Champions edition of WWE SmackDown was taped this past Monday after the June 29th edition of Monday Night Raw. That’s because WWE wanted to give some time off to talent and staff ahead of the Fourth of July holiday on Saturday.

While WWE isn’t officially advertising Cody Rhodes for the July 3rd SmackDown, it would not be a surprise to see him confront the new WWE Champion, Sami Zayn, on the show. Here’s what WWE is officially advertising for the July 3rd SmackDown.

  • Sami Zayn returns to SmackDown as the new Undisputed WWE Champion
  • Charlotte Flair, Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green combine to take on Jade Cargill, B-Fab and Michin
  • Rey Fenix defends AAA Cruiserweight Title against El Hijo del Vikingo
  • Brie Bella takes on Lainey Reid

Tonight’s edition of SmackDown also marks the return of the 2-hour version of the show. From January through June, SmackDown is 3 hours, and then from July through December, it’s a 2-hour show. We’ll have full SmackDown coverage on TJRWrestling later this evening.
