Sami Zayn had some strong words for critics of his WWE Title victory.

After more than a decade on the WWE main roster, Sami Zayn finally did the unthinkable at Night of Champions – he became the Undisputed WWE Champion.

In a triple threat match between Zayn, former 3-time WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, and the former 2-time World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, the “Last Real Good Guy” was able to counter Rhodes, moments after Rhodes hit a Cross Rhodes on both of his opponents. As Rhodes attempted another Cross Rhodes, Zayn countered it, sat on top, held onto Cody’s legs, and kept him down for the three count.

That victory by Sami Zayn meant he became a Grand Slam Champion in WWE, as he’s now a WWE Champion, a former Intercontinental Champion, a former United States Champion, and a former Tag Team Champion.

While fans of Zayn are happy to see him finally win the WWE Title, there are also critics who don’t believe a guy like Zayn should be WWE Champion.

During an appearance on Don, Hahn & Rosenberg on ESPN New York, the WWE Champion Zayn had some thoughts on the haters.

“Look, if you just don’t like me, that’s fine. You’re certainly allowed to not like me. But I think if you start getting married to an archetype of what you have been taught to like, ‘This is what you should want,’ and then that’s all you buy… I mean, without insulting anybody here, I just think that’s kind of like a lack of… well, I don’t know… free thought? Like a lack of intelligence?”

Zayn continued to make his point.

“Well, I mean, what I’m saying is, this isn’t the product I’ve always purchased, and that’s fair. But you’re allowed to want other products or enjoy other products. It shouldn’t be that one thing has been sold to you and you should come to accept that that is the only thing, the only way anything needs to be done.”

Sami Zayn Is Accepting Of Other Cultures

As a pro wrestler for more than 20 years and a WWE superstar for more than a decade, Sami Zayn knows what it’s like to travel the world. The Montreal native is beloved in Canada, but he won the WWE Title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which has become like a second home for him with WWE fans because he speaks Arabic, and that helps him relate to the fans at Saudi Arabian shows.

Zayn would go on to say that his experience traveling the world has made him realize that fans like different things in different places, and people who don’t understand that likely have a different view of the world.

“To me, I equate that with almost like staying in your hometown your whole life and never going to New York City, and then never realizing that there’s a whole planet out there and there’s billions of people out there and there’s billions of ways to do things and there’s billions of different cuisines and cultures and dances and whatever.

There’s a whole universe out there, and you’ve got to broaden your horizons a little bit. Maybe I say this because traveling the world has been so important to me and it’s shaped my worldview.

If I’m just not your cup of tea, fair play. But the idea that a champion needs to be this or needs to be that… I’m like, all right, well… you’re an idiot.”
