John Cena’s Message To Sami Zayn After Undisputed WWE Title Win Revealed
Congratulatory messages have not stopped pouring in for Sami Zayn following his Undisputed WWE Championship win at Night of Champions.
At the Riyadh PLE, Zayn faced Gunther and then-WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in a 3-way match for the title.
Their segments over the last several weeks, including one where Zayn cost Gunther the championship while acting as the guest referee, resulted in the match being finalized.
On June 27, Sami Zayn overcame the odds and pinned Cody Rhodes just as he was going for a second Cross Rhodes attempt.
After winning the title, the Canadian superstar celebrated with the fans before making his way back.
During a recent virtual appearance on ESPN New York, Zayn spoke about the aftermath, claiming the outpouring of support and love had left him feeling overwhelmed.
To be honest, one of the things that has overwhelmed me the most about this is the outpouring of support and love. The words that came up the most were like overdue and deserved. Man, to get that from so many people that I respect and love, it’s really been touching and amazing to no end.
Sami Zayn further claimed receiving a touching message from John Cena, whom he had wrestled last year on the September 5 edition of SmackDown while defending the United States Championship.
I guess one message that I got that I didn’t expect, it was extremely nice, it was from John Cena. He sent me a message and he just kind of reminded me of the difficulty of attaining this and that less than 1% of the people that aspire to do what we do ever gets to this point. That’s not lost on me, but to hear it coming from him, just saying congratulations.
One of the things he said that also really touched me is like, this is a genuinely earned — I don’t want to throw out personal stuff that he said to me, but the thing that stuck to me is that he said you really did it your way. Man, I just thought that was so cool coming from him. He’s the man because he didn’t have to text me at all.
It’s really one of the more touching texts that I got, to be honest with you. You know how he is, he’s a very thoughtful person and I think he was trying to remind me, in case I wasn’t already, to be very mindful of the unlikeliness and how difficult it is to reach the mountaintop. Sami Zayn Wishes Cody Rhodes On His Birthday
Cody Rhodes celebrated his 41st birthday on June 30, three days after he lost his Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions.
In the lead-up to the match, he often shared a backstage or in-ring segment with Sami Zayn. These segments usually portrayed a back-and-forth interaction, showing the friendship slowly deteriorating.
On more than one occasion, Rhodes had even caught Zayn badmouthing him.
Sami Zayn made sure that he wished The American Nightmare on his birthday, although the outcome on Instagram seemed more like a jab.
While the text simply read, “Happy birthday to my friend Cody Rhodes,” the photo showed Zayn smiling and with the WWE Championship strategically placed beside him.
