Ex-World Champion’s 30-Year Relationship With WWE Officially Ends
Mick Foley’s final chapter with WWE has finally ended.
The former 3-time world champion had announced his initial departure from the company in December last year.
According to Foley, his decision to part ways with the Stamford promotion stemmed from its close ties to the Trump administration. He has previously been critical of the government’s handling of immigrants as well as other policies.
The hardcore legend revealed that Donald Trump’s comments about filmmaker Rob Reiner after his death were the final straw.
Sharing an Instagram post, the Hall of Famer criticized the promotion’s higher-ups for coddling a man with no compassion. He also wrote that he would not re-sign the Legend’s deal after it expired.
PARTING WAYS WITH WWE
While I have been concerned about WWE’s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months — especially in light of his administration’s ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who “looks like an immigrant”) — reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me.
I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.
Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June. I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, “I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.”
Mick Foley’s Professional Relationship With WWE Officially Ends
On Wednesday, Mick Foley again took to Instagram to reveal that his ties with the Stamford-based wrestling company had officially ended.
The 61-year-old thanked the promotion and its merchandising department while recalling getting his first action figure after being on the road for over a decade.
Foley also addressed his fans, claiming that he had no problem signing WWE memorabilia and merchandise despite no longer being associated with the brand.
He then spoke about being really excited about his new adventure with AEW, for which he made his first appearance at Double Or Nothing last month.
Mick Foley ended the video with his classic line, ‘have a nice day,’ and thanked his former employer and fans again for their long-lasting support.
