A former WWE talent has revealed that they were granted a release by their most recent employer.

Eric Young had multiple stints with TNA, his latest run lasting from 2023 to 2026. The Canadian veteran wrestler shared an update about his release on his X account, along with an AI-generated image of himself.

Young claimed that he requested his release voluntarily, and that his contract with the Nashville-based company was not a handshake deal but a binding contract.

He went on to proclaim that he now had the freedom to pursue future opportunities, citing extensive accolades, a strong resume, and a reputation in the industry.

Eric Young’s last match was at the 2026 Slammiversary pay-per-view on June 28, where he lost to Ricky Sosa.

Before joining TNA for his latest stint, Young signed with WWE in November 2022, but never officially made a TV appearance. Reportedly, the storyline would see him form a stable with Uncle Howdy and Bray Wyatt.

Instead, he asked for his release.

While speaking on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, Young claimed that he had no desire to work with Vince McMahon, whose return was announced at the time.

Eric Young Potentially Returning To WWE In A Different Role

Despite his unceremonious exit from WWE in 2023, Eric Young continues to maintain a positive relationship with the promotion’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H.

Reportedly, Triple H was reluctant when Young asked for his release. Nevertheless, the company has kept the door open for the Canadian wrestler, who is expected to make his return, although in a different role.

Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer said that Young could join the coaching team in NXT, in addition to an in-ring role as a mentor.

Eric Young has previously competed on WWE’s developmental brand when Triple H handled its creative reins. Along with his SAnitY stablemate Alexander Wolfe, he became a one-time NXT Tag Team Champion in 2017.

Between 2018 and 2020, the faction performed on the main roster.

At 46 years old and with more than 25 years of experience in the wrestling industry, Young brings knowledge that could shape the future of the Stamford promotion like never before.
