Drew McIntyre’s WWE Return Status Revealed

Drew McIntyre is currently on a hiatus from WWE.

McIntyre was last seen at WrestleMania 42, where he lost a brutal and chaotic Unsanctioned Street Fight to Jacob Fatu. WWE Creative used this loss to write him off TV and allow him time to film his upcoming Highlander reboot movie.

Insider reports claim that he officially finished filming his scenes in late May 2026. According to a new update from WrestleVotes, McIntyre’s return is scheduled to return to TV “sooner rather than later.”

Reports say WWE almost brought back McIntyre at Clash in Italy after Jacob Fatu suffered a brief injury scare ahead of the event. However, Fatu was cleared for action for his scheduled match against Roman Reigns on May 30, and therefore, McIntyre wasn’t needed as an emergency replacement.

On June 1, 2026, WWE briefly created massive online confusion when the official website accidentally uploaded a King of the Ring tournament bracket that listed Drew McIntyre. It was quickly clarified that it was just a mistake and that he is not in the tournament.

CM Punk Says Drew McIntyre Is Jealous Of Him

CM Punk is one of Drew McIntyre’s biggest rivals in WWE. The two superstars had a highly intense and chaotic feud in 2020, which culminated in a trilogy of matches at SummerSlam, Bash in Berlin, and Bad Blood.

The two superstars have long since moved on from their rivalry, but still hate each other’s guts. Both of them then leave no opportunity to insult or demean each other. That said, in an interview with TalkSport, CM Punk claimed that Drew McIntyre is jealous of him:

You know, it’s what everybody does. They got to talk about the cover athlete. They got to talk about the champ to stay relevant, to say anything interesting. I mean, has Drew ever been on the cover? Okay, so maybe there’s a little bit of jealousy. There’s a little bit of envy there, you know? I don’t know what else to say beyond that.

If Drew was on the cover, we could do the 15 staples on the top of his head that I put in his head in Hell in the Cell. Maybe that’ll sell covers. I don’t know. I don’t even think people in Scotland would buy it if Drew was on the cover. You know, he’s a Rangers fan. Yeah, says enough, right?
