Cody Rhodes’ First WWE Title Challenger Confirmed

Cody Rhodes WWE Championship

Cody Rhodes has discovered the identity of his first challenger.

Now that Cody Rhodes has finally “finished the story” and beaten Roman Reigns the big question is, what next?

At Backlash on May 4th, Rhodes will put the title on the line against a new challenger, who just so happens to be someone he’s never wrestled before.

On the April 19th episode of SmackDown, AJ Styles pinned LA Knight to book himself a shot at Rhodes and World Title glory. A week earlier, Styles overcame Kevin Owens and Rey Mysterio, while Knight got the better of Bobby Lashley and Santos Escobar.

The match between Styles and Rhodes is especially notable as it’s the first time the former Bullet Club stars have met in the ring. While the Phenomenal One has a championship pedigree in WWE he hasn’t held the gold since late 2018.

Cody Rhodes Eyeing Showdown With The Rock

During WWE’s recent UK tour, Rhodes made several media appearances, most notably on Good Morning Britain. While on the show, Cody Rhodes discussed a potential showdown with The Rock. The pair became involved in a heated rivalry going into WrestleMania, and a head-to-head on Raw only added to the speculation.

Looking ahead, The American Nightmare said he hopes the match can happen, but a lot will depend on him being a “good champion.’

Meanwhile, The Rock recently took the opportunity to send another warning to Rhodes, closing by saying he’ll “see him down the road.”
