Carmella Devastated By WWE Exit

Carmella has revealed where she was when she got the news that her WWE career was over and how she felt at the time.

Carmella has not wrestled since March 2023 as she and WWE announcer Corey Graves welcomed their first child together into the world in November of that same year. As a result of the birth, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion developed drop foot but remained determined to return to the ring.

The chances of that happening any time soon in WWE crashed when Carmella’s contract was allowed to expire meaning that she is no longer part of the company. Something that came as quite a shock.

Carmella Unprepared For WWE Exit

Speaking in an interview with PEOPLE, Carmella shed more insight into her departure from WWE and admitted she wasn’t prepared to be let go:

It was unfortunate, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. I’m a big believer in things happening for a reason, and it just wasn’t for me anymore, I was there for 12 years. It was time to kind of pivot. I just wasn’t necessarily prepared for it in that moment.

Carmella said she received the news while waiting to see comedian Nikki Glaser but had to head home where she found comfort and a dose of the truth from her husband Corey Graves:

I was like, there’s no way I can sit in the show and focus on the show. I was just so kind of shocked. But he was so supportive. I’m not going to lie, I was devastated when it first happened. I was like, ‘Well, what if my career’s over and I just have nothing else to do and this is the pinnacle of my career and now it’s all downhill?’

And he was like, ‘Wait a minute.’ He’s shaking me, shaking some truth into me, and I’m just so grateful for him in that moment.

Corey Graves has had his own issues with WWE in recent months since being moved off the main roster and returning to commentary duties alongside Booker T and Vic Joseph on NXT.
