Seth Rollins successfully pulled off “Ruse of the Century” last year, major thanks to Becky Lynch.
Ahead of SummerSlam 2025, Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury that turned out to be fake, but he sold it so well that the entire WWE Universe was fooled.
After CM Punk defeated Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, The Visionary made an appearance with a leg brace and crutches, leading the fans to believe that he was present at the show only to play mind games with his arch-enemy.
Till the very last moment, fans and even WWE talent backstage had no idea that Rollins was fine and that his injury was fake.
Then, all of a sudden, Rollins removed his leg brace, threw away the crutches, and ran towards the ring with the Money in the Bank briefcase to cash in on CM Punk and become the World Heavyweight Champion, pulling off the “Ruse of the Century”.
In Season 3 of Unreal, it was revealed that WWE planned Seth Rollins’ fake knee injury storyline in the summer of 2025. Rollins and his wife, Becky Lynch, discussed the storyline in a recent edition of The Rich Eisen Show, where it was revealed that Lynch played a crucial role in its successful execution.

The Man revealed that WWE wanted Seth Rollins to appear at SummerSlam wearing his ring gear, but she refused, arguing that Rollins wearing his ring gear would be a “dead giveaway” to the fans.
Rollins did as Becky said, and as a result, nobody could even fathom that he was there for the cash-in until the moment he did it, and the fake injury storyline turned out to be a huge success.
Lynch: “I was on the bus when that conversation happened.”
Rollins: “You were. Yeah, she was a consultant.”
Lynch: “Yes. I was a staunch believer that you shouldn’t be in your gear.”
Rollins: “That’s right.”
Lynch: “They wanted you in your gear, and I was like, ‘Eh, he can’t be in his gear.’”
Rollins: “Yeah, the initial was, ‘Oh, you’re coming out because you’re cashing in. You have to be in your gear because it’s gonna be a match’ and she was like, ‘Absolutely not. If you’re in your gear, then they know. It’s a dead giveaway. Don’t do it.’ I didn’t know. Always listen to The Man.”
Shortly after winning the World Heavyweight Championship, Rollins had to relinquish the title due to an injury he suffered at Crown Jewel. He is scheduled to face Roman Reigns for the championship he never lost at SummerSlam this year.
