AEW Star Competes After CM Punk Row

CM Punk

One AEW star was back in the ring following a backstage altercation with CM Punk.

Over the weekend, it was reported that Ryan Nemeth was brought into Greensboro, NC ahead of the August 12th episode of AEW Collision. However, when he arrived, Nemeth was told that he wasn’t needed and that a flight had been booked for him to return home immediately.

Nemeth has previously butted heads with CM Punk in the past, calling him out on social media and getting into a backstage confrontation during Punk’s unadvertised appearance on the June 21st Dynamite.

A report following the most recent showdown suggested things may have turned sour at the hotel before Collision with Nemeth alleged to have slighted Punk by saying hello to other AEW stars except for him and the people Punk was with.

CM Punk might want to give ROH a miss

However, despite the drama Ryan Nemeth was back in action on Wednesday night as part of matches taped for Ring of Honor. The Hollywood Hunk announced that it was ‘Hunk Appreciation Night’ in Nashville and said he wanted to face a world champion – CM Punk has been calling himself the ‘real world champion’ in recent weeks. However, Nemeth didn’t get Punk, he got ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli who defeated Nemeth after more than 30 turns on the giant swing and a big uppercut.

Dave Meltzer discussed the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio and added that two other men that Punk has had issues with were also featured on Wednesday’s ROH taping:

“So on the taping, Ryan Nemeth wrestled, the main event was Zack Sabre Jr vs. Christopher Daniels. Colt Cabana appeared as a second for Brandon Cutler, he was doing a thing where him and Brandon Cutler were together as a unit. All of these guys are never going to be on Ring of Honor again, it’s like they are introducing all of these guys.”

Christopher Daniels was stopped from attending Collision despite his role as AEW’s Head of Talent Relations in apparent retaliation for Punk’s friend Ace Steel not being allowed to attend shows following his part in the infamous backstage fight at All Out 2022.
