AEW Forced Into Name Change For New Signing

AEW’s latest signing will have a brand new name.

On January 11th, Black Taurus announced that he had parted ways with Mexican promotion AAA. Instead, the star said he would continue his career as a free agent in both Mexico and the USA.

“Esta foto es vieja pero es la que encontré en estos momentos . Just to thank AAA and that from now on I will be an independent agent. black taurus continues his career in the USA and Mexico as a free agent and why not maybe see cmll?”

However, it appears Taurus’ free agency has already come to an end as Luchablog has reported that he has now signed with AEW/ROH. According to the report, AAA owns the rights to the Taurus name as he began using it in 2015 while under contract to the promotion.

Despite this, Black Taurus has appeared with his full gimmick intact during appearances on independent shows and in IMPACT Wrestling. In 2023, Black Taurus unsuccessfully challenged El Hijo Vikingo for the AAA Mega Title at ROH Final Battle and in a rematch on the Holiday Bash edition of Rampage, also under his usual name. However, this seems to be about to change.

Black Taurus Set To Receive New Name In AEW

With Black Taurus leaving AAA and moving to a new full-time promotion which will see him regularly featured on TV, it appears that his old company wants to retain the rights to the name, meaning he will have to come up with something new. However, Luchablog stated this wasn’t an unexpected situation.

“I’m told (Taurus) was prepared for that to be a possible outcome. I don’t know exactly what (Taurus) will look like or be called when you see him on TV again, but I’m expecting his name won’t have the word ‘Taurus’ in it.”
