Congratulations To Ex-WWE Stars Dakota Kai & Eddy Thorpe

Former multi-time WWE Champion Dakota Kai has shared a joyful update on her personal life.

Speaking on a recent ZELVX and CHARLIE GIRL podcast, she revealed that she was now engaged to Karl Fredericks, who performed under the name Eddy Thorpe in the Stamford promotion.

Between 2023 and 2025, Thorpe competed on NXT, whereas Kai made her main roster debut at the 2022 SummerSlam alongside Bayley and IYO SKY, later becoming part of the Damage CTRL faction.

Dakota Kai became a 2-time NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion and won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship as many times on the main roster.

Both Kai and Thorpe were released by WWE on May 2, 2025. While Thorpe continued to perform in the independent circuit, Kai took a nearly year-long break before returning to the indies in March 2026.

Ex-WWE Star Dakota Kai Shares Proposal Story

With her WWE days in the rearview, Dakota Kai became a regular streamer on Twitch. While speaking on her YouTube podcast, she shared the details of Eddy Thorpe’s proposal to her when they celebrated their second anniversary.

She claimed that Thorpe took her out for a romantic Italian dinner and had planned to take her to another location later, only to learn that the place was closed.

Yeah. Our two-year anniversary. The found out like yesterday at the Fourth of July party. But yeah, we just went out to dinner. It was really nice. And then he… we wanted to go to a place afterwards. It’s just like a garden area where they do like a lot of little stalls. It’s really pretty. It has like fairy lights and stuff.

We pull up and it’s like shut down. I like looked through the gate and I don’t know what he’s planning. Like I’m just like, ‘Oh, it’s like closed. We should just go home.’ Like… we had a nice dinner. You know what I mean? Like we’re only five minutes from home. I’m like, ‘Grandma over here.’ I’m a grandma. So I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s time to get to bed. We had a nice Italian dinner.’

Dakota said that she was not suspicious about his proposal as she was tired and full from eating her meal and wanted to head home. Eddy, however, was adamant about not letting barriers spoil their evening. The couple then made a 30-minute drive to Sanford.

He’s like, ‘Uh, why don’t we… let’s go to Sanford because that’s where we had our second date and it was like a special place.’ But I’m also like, ‘It’s 30 minutes away.’ I’m like, ‘By the time we get to sleep, it’s going to be late.’ I didn’t say that to him because I could tell he was like, ‘Let’s do something.’ So I’m like, ‘Okay, let’s go.’ It’s fine.

The former WWE star then revealed that Eddy stopped in the middle of the street. Finding themselves at risk of getting injured by other vehicles, they moved aside while people watched. He then proposed to her.

Then I go to… I start walking the road and then he like stops in the middle of the road and I’m like trying to pull him like, ‘What are you doing?’ And there’s people around. Like I’m trying to pull him and he’s not moving.

And then when the cars go, he pulls me back out into the middle of the street and then starts his spiel… and then he did the question.

This truck of girls… went around the corner and they were like hooting and hollering and like, ‘Ah!’ I got congratulated. There was also… like a group of guys or men sitting outside and they just didn’t react at all. I haven’t stopped smiling about it. [H/T: Ringside News]
