WWE News: Triple Threat Smackdown Tag Team Title Match Added to TLC on Dec. 16, Nine Matches Official

TJR Wrestling

A third match was announced for WWE’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view on December 16 in San Jose. This time it’s a Smackdown Tag Team Title match with Sheamus and Cesaro aka The Bar defending their titles against The Usos and The New Day in a triple threat. It’s being called a “dream triple threat match” by WWE.com in their writeup:

Three of the most dominant tag teams in recent history will collide at WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs as The Bar defends the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The New Day and The Usos in a Triple Threat Match. These three teams each have five Tag Title reigns to their names, making them some of the most accomplished squads to compete in WWE.

Sheamus & Cesaro captured the SmackDown Tag Titles on SmackDown 1000 by defeating The New Day’s Big E & Xavier Woods. Since Survivor Series, though, the reigning champions have hit a snag, with non-title losses to both The New Day and The Usos. Plus, under the Triple Threat Match stipulation, pressure will be even higher on The Bar, considering they do not need to be involved in the decision to lose the titles.

Don’t miss this dream Triple Threat Match at WWE TLC, streaming live on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 7 ET/4 PT on WWE Network.

As you can see there, the reason for the triple threat is because The Bar lost non-title to The New Day and The Usos in back to back weeks on Smackdown. That’s classic WWE booking to set up a title match at a PPV.

I think it’s possible this becomes a Ladder Match just to raise the stakes a bit, but with the women of Smackdown in a triple threat TLC match, maybe WWE won’t want want to go that route for these guys. Anyway, here’s the rest of the lineup following the addition of two more matches earlier today.

WWE Championship: Daniel Bryan (c) vs. AJ Styles

Smackdown Women’s Championship TLC Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka

Intercontinental Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Dean Ambrose

Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match: Braun Strowman vs. Baron Corbin (If Strowman wins, he challenges Lesnar for the Universal Title at Royal Rumble. If Corbin wins, he is full-time GM of Raw.) – Strowman is questionable to make the match due to elbow surgery earlier this week, so if he doesn’t make it, maybe Bray Wyatt will take his place since Wyatt is expected back on Raw very soon.

Raw Women’s Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nia Jax

Smackdown Tag Team Championships: The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) vs. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso)

Finn Balor vs. Drew McIntyre

Elias vs. Bobby Lashley

Finals of Mixed Match Challenge (Teams to be determined.) – Balor might make the finals with his partner Bayley, so he could work twice that night. They could lose to the team of Jinder Mahal and Alicia Fox as well, which would put them in the finals.

There might be another match added on the Smackdown side because of the rivalry between Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio, which could lead to a Chairs Match. Jeff Hardy vs. Samoa Joe is a possibility too.

It’s a nine-match card for now.
