There were some remarks on commentary during WWE Smackdown that suggest a matchup between two champions could be coming soon.

The next WWE Premium Live Event on the calendar for the main roster is Fastlane on Saturday, October 7th. After that, it’s Crown Jewel on November 4th followed by Survivor Series three weeks later on November 25th.

In the past, WWE used Survivor Series to set up some Raw vs. Smackdown matches. Sometimes that meant champions from each brand would face off in non-title matches while other teams it would lead to elimination matches.

At the 2022 edition of Survivor Series, the first one with Triple H running the creative team, there were no Raw vs. Smackdown matches and instead were storyline-driven matches along with a Women’s and Men’s WarGames match. This year, there has been no indication that there will be WarGames again.

WWE Teases IYO SKY-Rhea Ripley Match During SmackDown

On last night’s episode of WWE Smackdown from Boston, the team of Charlotte Flair & Shotzi beat Damage CTRL’s Bayley and WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY. Asuka showed up at ringside to cause a distraction, which led to Flair kicking Bayley and Shotzi hitting a DDT to win.

During commentary of that match, veteran WWE announcer Michael Cole mentioned that IYO SKY has been frustrated as the WWE Women’s Champion getting less attention than Raw’s Rhea Ripley, who is the WWE Women’s World Champion.

It could be WWE’s way of setting up a match between Ripley and SKY for Survivor Series, but that’s not confirmed at this point.

Ripley will be defending her Women’s World Title on Raw next Monday, September 11th while SKY defends the WWE Women’s Title against Asuka in two weeks on September 22nd.
