A surprise match was announced for next week’s WWE Raw taping in Chicago.

On the July 3 edition of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes faced Jey Uso in the main event to determine the #1 contender to Sami Zayn’s title.

The match took place after Adam Pearce finalized it and announced that the winner would face Zayn for the WWE Championship on Raw on Monday.

The match itself witnessed great back-and-forth action, as both former champions were intent on not relinquishing the advantage.

However, Jey’s error in the final minutes allowed Cody to hit the Cross Rhodes and pin the Bloodline member for the victory. It remains to be seen whether or not Zayn manages to hold his title.

Elsewhere, wrestling fans have missed Randy Orton, whose last appearance was at WrestleMania 42. At the Show of Shows, he lost his title match to The American Nightmare.

Reports have done the rounds that The Viper could appear on television soon, as the Stamford promotion builds towards SummerSlam.

Meanwhile, a post on Facebook claimed that Orton will help Sami Zayn retain his title at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, scheduled on July 18 in Madison Square Garden.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful brushed off this claim with a one-word response.

Sapp’s response thus confirms that Orton would play no role in Zayn’s title match against Rhodes on Raw either.

WWE recently pulled Randy Orton from Fanatics Fest, although no official reason was provided. Bianca Belair and Drew McIntyre will also miss the event.

Danhausen To Compete At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

Since the time Danhausen made his first appearance at Elimination Chamber, he has been featured in comedy gimmicks backstage, along with a handful of matches.

His last match was on the June 23 edition of SmackDown, where he teamed up with Matt Cardona to defeat the Los Garza duo of Angel and Berto. He had also competed at WWE Backlash, teaming up with Minihausen to beat The Miz and Kit Wilson.

On Friday, the 35-year-old was again featured in a backstage segment with Cardona. Danhausen revealed that he has a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event against The Judgment Day’s JD McDonagh.

McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio have been feuding with Danhausen since the day he took their money and refused to curse Oba Femi on Raw.

Even Mysterio’s on-screen beau, Liv Morgan, got caught in the mix, resulting in her getting cursed before her Queen of the Ring match against IYO SKY at Night of Champions.

Incidentally, one of Danhausen’s first interactions in WWE following his debut was with The Judgment Day.
