A worrying backstage update has emerged on Sami Zayn’s WWE future.
Cody Rhodes put his Undisputed WWE Title on the line against Gunther and Sami Zayn in a triple threat match at Night of Champions 2026. In the end, Zayn pulled off a miracle to win his first world championship in the sports entertainment juggernaut.
While the majority of fans are ecstatic that The Last Real Good Guy finally won the big one, some are sceptical about how his reign will be booked. According to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, Sami Zayn becoming the Undisputed WWE Champion at Night of Champions caught many within the company “off guard,” including people in the marketing department.
It was further added that, as of July 1st, the marketing department has not received instructions to update the 2026 SummerSlam key art concepts to reflect Zayn being the champion. His title win was reportedly handled on a strict “need to know” basis across multiple departments.
One employee described the situation as “worrisome” because the lack of advance notice for a major creative change, like Sami Zayn’s case, could make their jobs more difficult if that level of secrecy becomes the norm.

Sami Zayn issues bold statement after WWE title win
During his recent appearance on Don, Hahn & Rosenberg on ESPN New York, Sami Zayn addressed the backlash following his Undisputed WWE Title victory.
“Look, if you just don’t like me, that’s fine. You’re certainly allowed to not like me. But I think if you start getting married to an archetype of what you have been taught to like, ‘This is what you should want,’ and then that’s all you buy… I mean, without insulting anybody here, I just think that’s kind of like a lack of… well, I don’t know… free thought? Like a lack of intelligence?”
“Well, I mean, what I’m saying is, this isn’t the product I’ve always purchased, and that’s fair. But you’re allowed to want other products or enjoy other products. It shouldn’t be that one thing has been sold to you and you should come to accept that that is the only thing, the only way anything needs to be done.”
It remains to be seen how Triple H books in the coming weeks.
