WWE has hinted at signing a former Intercontinental Champion.

On last week’s SmackDown, LA Knight was revealed as one of the participants in John Cena’s “Last Time Is Now” tournament, and he would face a mystery opponent.

During the November 14 taping, his opponent was revealed to be Matt Cardona, who wrestled under his WWE name, Zack Ryder.

It was the Indy God’s first appearance on the company’s main roster in over five years.

Ryder wrestled on NXT on October 14, where he lost to Josh Briggs in a singles match.

As a talent on the Stamford promotion’s roster, Ryder experienced prime success between 2011 and 2012, when he was featured in a storyline with John Cena.

While the duo initially were allies, they ultimately split after Cena was caught kissing Ryder’s girlfriend, Eve. Ryder never attained similar success in the company and was eventually released in 2020.

Has WWE Officially Signed Zack Ryder?

Zack Ryder’s latest appearance on SmackDown did generate interest among fans. However, he lost to LA Knight, thus stunting his progress in the tournament.

After the taping, his merch became available for purchase on the company’s website, indicating that it might have re-signed the 40-year-old.

Later, a video was shared on YouTube, where Ryder spoke about being away from the main roster for 5 years, during which he explored the independent circuit, earning the Indy God moniker.

His wife, Chelsea Green, also posted a picture with him, containing a heartwarming message.

Another match of the tournament saw Jey Uso face The Miz.

Miz, who has been Cena’s long-standing rival, sought a final opportunity at ending the 17-time world champion’s career.

However, he fell short, as Uso ended the match with a Uso Splash.
