WWE Rejected The Rock’s Pitch To Turn This Superstar Heel
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wanted a different wrestler to turn heel.
The former WWE champion even pitched the idea to the WWE leadership, but failed to get them on board with the idea.
The wrestler in question is ‘American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes.
The conversations between The Rock and the WWE staff apparently intensified during Rhodes’ WrestleMania 41 buildup against John Cena.
The on-screen segments between the two wrestlers usually witnessed mixed reactions for Rhodes, prompting The Brahma Bull to push for the storyline more.
However, according to internal data, Rhodes is one of the top performers in terms of merchandise sales and fan engagement.
Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that the leadership rejected the idea, believing that any alteration to Rhodes’ babyface persona could hamper the company’s business side of things.
Goldberg Reflects On His Relationship With The Rock
Goldberg is scheduled to wrestle in his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12.
He will face World Heavyweight Champion Gunther for the title.
The WWE Hall of Famer recently appeared on The National Football Show, where he discussed various topics, including The Rock.
Goldberg revealed that he had not spoken to the Hollywood star in years, but maintains great respect for him.
We’re cool, man. I haven’t spoken to him in years. I love him to death, you know. There’s the story of him reaching out and asking if I wanted him to check on my mom during one of the hurricanes, before we had even met in person.
So, for that gesture, I’ll always be a Rock fan, not to mention the fact that he’s extremely talented and extremely successful in everything he’s done. He sets the bar higher for guys like me and the people that would follow in his footsteps.
Goldberg and The Rock had wrestled in the main event of Backlash 2003.
