Could WWE’s Saudi WrestleMania Help AEW? Tony Khan Answers
Tony Khan has opened up on WrestleMania 43 taking place in Saudi Arabia.
Ever since AEW first launched in 2019, the promotion has gone head-to-head with WWE. Although they were the new kids on the block, Tony Khan didn’t shy away from competing with the sports entertainment juggernaut.
AEW even managed to win the Wednesday Night Wars, which forced WWE to change NXT to Tuesday. Over the years, both companies have gone head-to-head in various ways. WWE has also tried to hurt AEW by booking shows that collide with the Jacksonville-based promotion’s programming. Despite this, AEW has managed to improve its rating and viewership.
Tony Khan thinks WWE hosting WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia could be a huge opportunity for AEW
While speaking to Q93 Alexandria, Tony Khan was asked if WWE hosting WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia would give AEW the chance to do something big for American wrestling fans. The AEW boss said that it is something worth exploring since he has been asked this question several times.
“Certainly something to consider. I get asked that question all the time. So, it would make you think that there could be opportunities, and I’m very excited about what AEW is doing right now, and it seems like that momentum and that excitement is really caught up all over the world.”
Tony Khan said that his company had a great year in 2025 and they’re doing great this year as well.
“People are really thrilled with AEW. We had a huge 2025, and now we’re having a great 2026. We’ve absolutely capitalized on that momentum, and I think we’re having an even better year this year.”
Tony also said that AEW won several awards in 2025 and the company is doing better this year. Therefore, he feels there could be an opportunity worth capitalizing on.
“We were voted the Sports Illustrated Pro Wrestling Promotion of the Year in 2025. We won numerous awards from all the top publications for top wrestling promotion, and I think that in 2026 we’re doing even better.
So, there’s a lot of excitement and certainly, since you asked, that could be a good possibility.” [H/T Ringside News]
It remains to be seen what Tony Khan will plan for AEW next year. However, it will be a huge gamble going up against WrestleMania 43 around the same weekend.
