Tony Khan has finally responded to major speculations ahead of AEW Forbidden Door.

The fifth annual Forbidden Door is set to take place this Sunday at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. Ten matches are currently booked for the pay-per-view, including the Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Cup finals, an AEW Continental Championship match between Jon Moxley and Bandido, and an AEW Women’s World Championship match between Thekla and Starlight Kid.

Meanwhile, many fans have been speculating on whether the show would see surprise debuts of high-profile free agents, who have recently departed other promotions, especially WWE.

Tony Khan Shoots Down The Rumors Ahead Of AEW Forbidden Door

During the Forbidden Door media call, TJR Wrestling’s Ahmed Hamdy asked Tony Khan whether any of the rumored high-profile free agents could indeed debut at the pay-per-view.

The AEW CEO noted that fans should not expect the rumored names to appear at Forbidden Door, pointing out that several of them remain under contract with other promotions. Nevertheless, Khan confirmed that big stars will be featured at the pay-per-view and expressed confidence that this year’s show could be the best Forbidden Door event to date.

Well, I think that a lot of the names that have been linked are still under contract with other wrestling promotions for days or a month or weeks at least. So, I wouldn’t expect to see those particular people you might be thinking of. But also, at the very end, there are going to be a lot of big names and excitement around Forbidden Door and it will be a tremendous event.

I’m really excited about it. And my hope is that it’s the best Forbidden Door event yet. And I absolutely think that is very achievable. We’ve put on some tremendous shows with Forbidden Door. At times, I think it’s been one of the best wrestling events of the year since its inception, and I believe we can achieve that this Sunday with Forbidden Door on pay-per-view, and it’s a great live event.
