It was announced by Kofi Kingston on The New Day’s podcast that came out today that he has signed a new 5-year contract to remain in WWE.

Kingston was excited to share the news: “I’m not done. I just signed another five-year contract. We got five years. Who knows what my body is gonna be like in those five years.”

Kingston is having the best year of his career at age 38. He signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2006 and made his debut on the main roster on ECW in January 2008. Kingston has been one of the most durable wrestlers in the company in the last decade. This has been the best year of his career since he won the WWE Title and held it for about six months.

Kingston is one half of the Smackdown Tag Team Champions right now with Big E. The New Day are 7-time Tag Team Champions in WWE and Kingston holds the record for being a tag team champion for over 1,000 days in his career.

TJR Thoughts: Congrats to Kofi on the five-year extension. I don’t know if it’s more money than what he usually made, but when you have that kind of tenure and considering WWE’s making over $2 billion in US TV deals in the next five years, it’s probably a raise for him too.

Tonight’s edition of Raw takes place in Des Moines, Iowa. It’s going to be a long night for WWE and the fans in attendance because they will be taping next week’s episode of Raw as well.

The main match advertised for Raw tonight is Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles.

The reason for the double taping is because next Monday is December 23rd, which is two days before Christmas. By taping tonight, it gives the Raw superstars and others that work on Raw some time off. The next event they have is a WWE live event in New York City on December 16th, so that means the Raw crew will be off the road for nearly ten days. That’s a nice rest that they deserve.

It’s a different story for Smackdown because there’s a live Smackdown this week on December 20th and the following week on December 27th. The December 30th Raw will also be live.

We will post Raw spoilers for next week either later tonight or tomorrow.
