WWE Considering Major Trick Williams Decision Ahead Of WrestleMania
WWE may be considering a major shift to Trick Williams’ on-screen character.
After spending a few weeks as a free agent following his multi-year NXT stint, Williams signed with SmackDown on January 2, 2026, as a heel.
Since then, he has competed in a handful of matches and has remained undefeated in singles bouts.
Another vividly noticeable characteristic in his personality is the reaction he gets from the audience everywhere he goes. The 31-year-old is massively over the crowds, who chant and groove to his theme song.
Trick Williams has been receiving a reaction that a babyface traditionally receives, and it may force WWE’s hand into implementing a significant shift to his TV persona.
Trick Williams May Be Pushed As A Babyface Ahead Of WrestleMania
The first sign of Trick Williams’ transition into a babyface was seen on the February 23 episode of WWE Raw, where he was featured in a non-wrestling segment.
Trick addressed the Atlanta crowd directly, praising the quality of chicken wings sold there as he continued to speak about his Elimination Chamber match.
A report on WrestleVotes Radio further shed light on WWE’s potential direction for Williams’ character change.
Sources indicate WWE Creative is already considering altering Trick Williams’ direction just a few months into his main roster run. There’s a strong sentiment he’s connecting with the crowd in a major way and thus should be positioned as a top level babyface.
We’re told that discussions also took place prior to his call up, when the decision was then made to present them as a heel. Now, just weeks later, internal talks have resurfaced about moving him to the babyface side.
The report also spoke about Trick’s time on NXT where he was hugely popular with the mass.
When he was making his way up from NXT, you know, when NXT did their rare events in arenas, he was the most over guy on the entire roster. Loudest chants, loudest singing ‘Whoop That Trick’ from bell to bell, from the front door to the back door, blowing the roof off every place that Trick Williams walked into.
Sometimes when you come in and you’re a babyface from the get go, you kind of have to earn the right to be that babyface and I think that Trick Williams has done that.
