Wrestling Legend Questions How WWE Uses LA Knight – “Why Not World Champ?”
A wrestling legend is openly questioning how WWE uses LA Knight and wonders why he isn’t in the World Title picture.
When Triple H took over the WWE creative team last summer as the Chief Content Officer, one of the first changes he did was to eliminate the Max Dupri character that was with the Maximum Male Models and bring back LA Knight.
The LA Knight was successfully developed on NXT over the previous few years. The man who portrays Knight is a wrestling veteran that had a lot of success in TNA/Impact Wrestling as Eli Drake, who is a former Impact World Champion.
Since becoming a singles wrestler on Smackdown, Knight has feuded with the likes of Bray Wyatt (a rivalry won by Wyatt at the Royal Rumble) and a few others, but he hasn’t picked up that many significant wins.
Konnan is a wrestling legend that spent many years in the ring while also working as a booker and has a keen eye for talent. Konnan mentioned how Knight is over with the crowd because when eh does promos the fans react to him and they care about his matches too.
On a recent episode of his Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan wondered why WWE wasn’t doing more with a guy like Knight.
“I don’t know why you’d have a guy, when it’s so hard to get people over, [who] is over, and you haven’t even pushed him. There’s so many great things you can do to make money with him, why you wouldn’t take advantage of him and try to take his knees out…And I could see him as Universal Champion, and if they gave him a proper push like we’ve seen them do when they want to, why not World Champ?”
While WWE didn’t use Knight at WrestleMania 39, Backlash and he’s not in a match at Night of Champions, there has been speculation that Knight could win Money in the Bank on July 1st. If that does happen then we are sure that a lot of fans, Konnan and LA Knight will be shouting “YEAH” to celebrate.
