One WWE Move Could Confirm Sami Zayn Is Not A “Top Guy”
WWE could confirm that Sami Zayn is not the “Top Guy” by pulling off a controversial move, according to a veteran.
Sami Zayn has been with the WWE since 2013 and has won many titles and accolades throughout his tenure. However, many fans have expressed the desire to see Sami win the World title for the past few years, especially since his rise during the Bloodline storyline. At Night of Champions 2026, Zayn competed in an Undisputed title match against Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a triple threat match.
After an amazing main event at the Saudi Arabia PLE, Sami Zayn shocked the world by capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship. Sami also showed up on SmackDown last Friday to celebrate his historic title win. However, the celebration was interrupted by Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. Later, Adam Pearce announced a No. 1 contender’s match between Cody and Jey, which Cody ended up winning.
This Monday on RAW, Cody Rhodes will challenge Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship in Sami’s first title defense. Many fans are concerned that Sami’s first-ever world title reign could last only nine days if Cody beats him on RAW. Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer has also reflected on the same.
WWE doesn’t see Sami Zayn as a top guy if they pull a huge move
Speaking on the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Sami Zayn losing his WWE Championship just nine days later is a bad move and a slap in the face to him:
I think doing it nine days later, in this specific case, is a real bad move. There are cases where it’s not, when it’s someone who’s clearly a transitional champion, and he is a transitional champion, but I think nine days, people will take that as a slap in the face to him.”
Meltzer further stated that it will be proven that WWE doesn’t see Sami Zayn as a top guy if he doesn’t hold on to the title until SummerSlam:
If he doesn’t go into SummerSlam as champion, it’s kind of, what would you call it, a championship reign that’s really historically pretty weak. It basically says, do they really believe in him as a top guy? Obviously not. You can put the belt on anyone at any time, but it only means something if, in their mind, the top guy has the belt.” [H/T Ringside News]

It will be interesting to see if Sami manages to retain the Undisputed title against Cody Rhodes on RAW.
