WWE Issues Comment On Ric Flair Leaving The Company

Ric Flair

WWE has issued a short comment regarding Ric Flair leaving the company following reports that The Nature Boy had requested his release.

News of the two-time WWE Hall Of Famer’s departure emerged courtesy of Fightful and Wrestling Inc. on the 2nd of August.

Ric Flair had reportedly re-signed with the company just over a year ago but had not been featured much on television. The sixteen-time world champion was most recently seen as part of a storyline where he turned his back on daughter Charlotte to side with Lacey Evans before Evans’ real-life pregnancy brought a premature end to the angle. Before that, Flair played a pivotal role in the increasingly violent feud in 2020 between Edge and Flair’s former Evolution partner, Randy Orton.

Fightful Select reported that Flair had grown frustrated with some booking decisions and had personally contacted Vince McMahon to express his concerns and ask for his release. There is no word as to which specific decisions contributed to Flair’s frustrations, however, the legendary wrestler had previously expressed his discomfort at the storyline where he portrayed Lacey Evans’ partner.

WWE has now issued an extremely short statement on Flair leaving the company one day after the story had first broken that Flair was on his way out, saying that Flair’s release is official as of the 3rd of August.

WWE’s statement reads:

“We have come to terms on the release of Ric Flair as of today, 8/03/2021.”

Some fans might find the wording of the statement odd due to the fact the usual line about “wishing them luck in their future endeavours” that has become commonplace in WWE statements when announcing talent releases has been omitted.

Fans will now be clamouring to see what The Nature Boy does next in his illustrious career. His former long-time rival Sting also took to social media to give his own comment on Flair leaving WWE.
