A championship match is expected to be added to the WWE Night of Champions PLE.

It was noticed by WWE fans earlier in the week that Women’s US Champion Tiffany Stratton has replaced WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley on the graphic for the Night of Champions PLE on Saturday, June 27th.

The reason for that is Ripley recently suffered a knee injury that is significant enough that she will be out of action for at least a few weeks, and is likely unable to wrestle at Night of Champions as originally planned.

With Ripley on the shelf, WWE knows they need to put another championship match on a show called Night of Champions.

It has been reported by False Finish that Tiffany Stratton is going to defend the Women’s United States Championship against Jade Cargill at Night of Champions on June 27th.

Stratton has lost tag team matches two weeks in a row on SmackDown, including on the June 5th SmackDown episode when Jade Cargill pinned Stratton in a tag team match.

A PLE match between Stratton and Cargill will be a way to rekindle their 2025 rivalry that led to Cargill turning heel. Cargill went on to take the WWE Women’s Title from Stratton in November 2025 and held the title all the way to WrestleMania 42, when she lost it to Ripley.

Many fans have been frustrated by WWE ignoring the Women’s US Title when it comes to PLE matches, so at least at Night of Champions, it won’t be ignored.

There have also been reports that Charlotte Flair is likely to face Jade Cargill at SummerSlam, so if Cargill were to win the Women’s US Title, then the Cargill/Flair match would be for a title.

WWE Night Of Champions Currently Features No “Major” WWE World Title Matches

The current lineup for WWE Night of Champions on June 27th looks like this:

  • King of the Ring Finals: Oba Femi vs. Jey Uso or Je’Von Evans
  • Queen of the Ring Finals: IYO SKY vs. Charlotte Flair or Liv Morgan
  • Steel Cage Match: Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker
  • United States Championship: Trick Williams vs. Carmelo Hayes or Ricky Saints

The Uso/Evans, Flair/Morgan, and Hayes/Saints matches are all taking place on the June 19th SmackDown episode, so those matches will be official soon.

What’s interesting about the Night of Champions card is that none of the four WWE/World Champions are in a match right now.

Roman Reigns is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and he’s not expected to wrestle at Night of Champions.

Liv Morgan is the Women’s World Champion on Raw, and it seems unlikely that she’ll defend her title since there’s no story for her and she may be in the Queen of the Ring finals.

As mentioned above, WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is injured and likely not competing at Night of Champions.

Cody Rhodes will defend the Undisputed WWE Champion against Gunther on the June 19th episode of SmackDown with Sami Zayn as the referee. There are some people who believe Zayn could get involved, and it could lead to a Rhodes-Gunther-Zayn triple threat match at Night of Champions. It’s possible, but right now, Rhodes isn’t in a match at NOC officially.

Night of Champions is 8 days away, so WWE has just over one week to alter the lineup.
