Update On WWE Changing Bad Bunny’s Original Backlash Plans

Bad Bunny is set for a huge singles match at Backlash, but that wasn’t always the plan for the match.

At Backlash this Saturday, May 6th in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny will get a hero’s welcome in his home country as he competes against Damian Priest of The Judgment Day in a San Juan Street Fight.

For Bad Bunny, it will only be his second WWE match. At WrestleMania 37 two years ago, Bunny teamed with Priest to beat The Miz & John Morrison in what was a very entertaining tag team match. Bunny impressed a lot of people considering he had only been training for a few months.

On this year’s Raw after WrestleMania, Bad Bunny was in the crowd when he was bullied by Dominik Mysterio and later Priest. Ret Mysterio tried to come to Bunny’s aid, but Priest still managed to give Bunny a South of Heaven slam through the commentary table.

Bad Bunny got his revenge against Priest with a kendo stick attack on the April 24th edition of Raw, which is what led to Bunny challenging Pirest to the San Juan Street Fight that will take place at Backlash.

According to Fightful Select, WWE’s plan was for Bad Bunny to team with Rey against Priest & Dominik with Bunny beating Dominik to win the match. However, WWE was comfortable with Bunny’s ability to have a good singles match instead, so they opted to go with Bunny-Priest in the San Juan Street Fight.

The WWE Backlash lineup looks like this with seven matches announced:

* Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar

* Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens & Matt Riddle vs. The Bloodline – Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso & Solo Sikoa

* San Juan Street Fight: Bad Bunny vs. Damian Priest

* Seth “Freakin” Rollins vs. Omos

* Smackdown Women’s Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Zelina Vega

* United States Championship: Austin Theory (c) vs. Bronson Reed vs. Bobby Lashley

* Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. IYO SKY

You can watch WWE Backlash, streaming LIVE from Puerto Rico on Saturday, May 6, streaming live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else.
