WWE Announcer States “I’m Not Getting In The Ring With GUNTHER”

GUNTHER WWE Intercontinental Champion

WWE fans are in for some Bad News as one of the company’s leading voices has refused to battle GUNTHER.

This last week on Raw saw GUNTHER retain the Intercontinental Championship in a match against Chad Gable.

By securing the victory, The Ring General has now secured his place in WWE history defeating Honky Tonk Man’s 454 day reign to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.

GUNTHER has dominated all of his opponents since moving to the main roster, with a count-out loss to Gable his only defeat in 2023.

But if fans were hoping that another member of the Raw roster could return to action to challenge GUNTHER, then they are set to be disappointed.

Wade Barrett moved to the Raw commentary booth following a shuffle of broadcasters at the beginning of April. With GUNTHER standing on the announce table in recent weeks to address challenges by Drew McIntyre and Chad Gable, the possibility of a face off with Barrett has risen.

The former Intercontinental Champion was a guest on the Even Stronger podcast and shared his thoughts on if fans can expect to see him challenge GUNTHER anytime soon.

“No, no surgeries on the horizon. I’m feeling pretty good,”

“Now, of course, this is when people start messaging me, ‘Hey when are you getting back in the ring? How about Gunther?’ Hell no! I’m not getting in the ring with Gunther I can promise you that.”

GUNTHER “Defining His Own Legacy” According To Triple H

By breaking one of WWE’s longest standing records, GUNTHER has added his place in history books and CCO Triple H feels that the former NXT UK Champion is creating his own legacy.

GUNTHER defeated Ricochet on June 10th 2022 to become Intercontinental Champion and has beaten all challengers since including Drew McIntyre and Sheamus.

After joining WWE as part of NXT UK in 2019, GUNTHER’s physical approach has seen a fast rise to the top of the company.

GUNTHER has now added to being the longest reigning NXT UK Champion along with breaking the record for longest time spent in the traditional 30-man Royal Rumble match.

Whilst Wade Barrett is not looking to challenge the Austrian, Brock Lesnar could be a possible next opponent. The pair collided during the Men’s Royal Rumble with The Beast admitting he would like a match with the Intercontinental Champion.
