Triple H Congratulates GUNTHER After Breaking WWE Record

Triple H with Gunther

Triple H has given his congratulations to Gunther for making WWE history.

The Austrian star has cemented his place in the record books as he will be the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion when he passes 454 days on September 8th.

The record was previously set by The Honky Tonk Man back in 1988 and few thought it would ever be beaten. However, The Ring General has steamrolled through many of WWE’s top stars to reach the milestone, with victories over the likes of Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and most recently Chad Gable bringing him to this point.

WWE’s Chief Content Officer – and five-time Intercontinental Champion – Triple H has marked the occasion, congratulating the star while predicting this would only be the beginning.

“Defining his own legacy. And this is just the beginning…

“Congratulations to @Gunther_AUT on making history as the longest-reigning #ICChampion EVER.”

Gunther is not surprised he has become the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion

While reaching a 455-day reign seemed unachievable in the modern era, Gunther is not surprised. In a recent interview, he explained that he had envisioned the moment ever since capturing the gold.

In fact, it seems he thinks he will remain champion for a long time to come as he recently told WWE that he doesn’t think there is a man alive who can defeat him for the title and he is determined to redefine the legacy of the Championship.

“I heard them discussing their childhood heroes, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels. I heard them talk about Steve Austin, The Rock.

“The reality is, when that bell rings, they all can come line up and lace my boots. Because as long as I’m alive, there’s no man born yet to take this title off me again.”
