Will Ospreay Blasts Critics Of Controversal AEW Dynamite Remarks: “F**k Off”
A few fans of the internet wrestling community turned on Will Ospreay following his controversial comments on AEW Dynamite.
Ospreay was part of a non-wrestling segment on the June 17 edition of Dynamite, where he was interviewed by Tony Schiavone.
The Aerial Assassin was there to speak about his upcoming match against Swerve Strickland in the final of the Owen Hart Cup tournament at Forbidden Door on June 28.
Will Ospreay, who recently got married to Alex Windsor, kicked off the segment by talking about how amazing his wife was, as, instead of going on a honeymoon, she encouraged him to focus on his upcoming high-stakes bout.
Ospreay then went on to share something intimate, which some fans saw as ‘gross,’ ‘dehumanizing,’ and ‘misogynistic.’
While it could be categorized as British humor, it did not necessarily land with fans on the internet, despite quite the opposite reaction from the live audience.
I got a good wife, man. So here’s what I did to treat her—I took her upstairs, I smashed the life out of her, bruv. I said, ‘Babe, clean yourself up, I gotta go to Houston.’
Will Ospreay Hits Back At Critics
While fans were not amused by Will Ospreay‘s comments about his wife on AEW Dynamite, the former International Champion was not impressed by their reaction either.
During a sitdown with Baby Huey from 107.7 The Bone podcast, the 33-year-old addressed the backlash, clarifying that his comment was not even about s*x and that they were actually playing a game.
Oh, it was hilarious, but I’ll be honest with everyone, I don’t know why everyone was so mad about it.
This is the thing — I said she was a good wife, and I was explaining how amazing she was to follow my dream. Then I said I took her upstairs and smashed the life out of her… at Mario Kart. Like, I beat her so bad at Mario Kart, and when I said to her, ‘Clean yourself up, love,’ she was sweating, mate! She was trying to play this game. It’s 38 degrees in England. It’s so hot.
Will Ospreay further claimed that he is accustomed to controversy following him everywhere he goes.
I don’t get why everyone was so mad about it, I’ll be honest with you guys. People got angry, and honestly, I attract anger everywhere I go, but this is me. I’m authentically myself.
He then shot words of warning for fans who tried to insert themselves into his marriage to Alex Windsor.
don’t mean any harm. I’m just being funny. Here’s the thing — my boss didn’t care, Warner Bros. didn’t care, Paramount didn’t care, my wife didn’t care. So I politely disagree with all of you if you have a problem with it. Don’t come into my relationship with my wife. F*** off.
Will Ospreay is determined to win the Owen Hart Cup tournament at Forbidden Door on Sunday against Swerve Strickland, the winner of which will receive a world title shot at All In.
AEW All In, meanwhile, is scheduled to take place in London on August 30 in Ospreay’s home country of England.
