Austin Theory will have to put the US Title on the line on the next episode of Smackdown taking place in New York City.

There are several big championship matches set to take place at today’s Money in the Bank Premium Live Event in London, but the US Title won’t be on the line.

The WWE United States Champion Austin Theory was in action on the June 30th edition of Smackdown when he faced England’s own Ridge Holland in London. Holland was selling the after-effects of Solo Sikoa hitting Ridge in the throat with a Samoan Spike on Smackdown one week earlier, so Theory was able to put Holland away with a roll-through dropkick to the throat.

After the match, Theory attacked Holland with a barrage of punches, but that’s when Ridge’s Brawling Brutes mentor Sheamus ran out for the save. When Sheamus went for a Brogue Kick, Theory managed to avoid it and ran away.

Later on Smackdown, WWE announced that Theory will have to defend the US Title against Sheamus next Friday, July 7th on Smackdown from the “World’s Most Famous Arena” Madison Square Garden in New York.

Next week’s Smackdown will also see Edge return on the Grayson Waller Effect talk show and AJ Styles faces Karrion Kross again after Kross picked up a win over Styles last month.

Austin Theory has beaten Sheamus in a US Title match already because, on the May 26th edition of Smackdown, Theory got a win over the Irishman thanks to some help from Pretty Deadly.

The current US Title reign of Austin Theory is his second time holding the championship. Theory’s run as champion started last November at Survivor Series and has lasted over 200+ days so far.
