Update On MJF Potentially Heading To WWE Once Contract Expires

MJF glares at audience

Following recent hints made by MJF himself on AEW TV, a new report claims there could be a “bidding war” between WWE and AEW over the leader of The Pinnacle when his AEW contract expires.

In recent weeks MJF has continued to make his presence felt in AEW, turning his verbal putdowns on former TNT Champion Darby Allin, Sting, and CM Punk. Between the insults, though, the AEW star has also sparked speculation on his future.

Currently one of the brightest prospects in AEW, he has nonetheless hinted at “going to that place” and “starting a bidding war” when his AEW contract runs out in 2024. This has led to increasing speculation that MJF might well leave the company and join their biggest rival, WWE, once his deal expires.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has confirmed there could be a grain of truth in MJF’s hints. He explained that, while MJF is unlikely to jump to WWE, a bidding war for his services could well happen.

“I had a conversation with him [MJF] about it and I don’t think he is going anywhere. I mean, if the deal, the financial deal, was really ridiculous by WWE, but who knows what they’re thinking in 2024. They usually don’t give ridiculous deals to someone who has never, in their mind, been a big deal. I could see there being a big bidding war. It’s just a question of how high they’re willing to go. I wouldn’t say he’s locked into AEW, but all things being equal, he won’t be leaving AEW.”

Following his victory over Darby Allin at Full Gear, MJF has been embroiled in a feud with CM Punk. On the most recent episode of Dynamite, the two had a lengthy verbal sparring match, this seems likely to turn physical in the near future.
