Two WWE Championships Unified On SmackDown

On a big night of SmackDown action in Lafayette, Lousiana, WWE now has one fewer championship to worry about it as two titles were unified on the show.

NXT was the big loser in the recent WWE Draft as the developmental brand lost both the NXT Women’s and NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions as Indi Hartwell joined Raw and Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn moved to SmackDown. Hartwell relinquished her title but Fyre and Dawn held on to theirs and brought them to SmackDown in Des Moines, Iowa.

However, before they could say too much, their title belts brought out the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler. Baszler noted that the titles the SmackDown newcomers were holding were essentially created because of her and now she wants them back.

That led to Rousey and Baszler challenging Fyre and Dawn to a title unification match which the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions gleefully accepted before attacking Rousey and Baszler. The bout was later confirmed to be taking place on the 23rd of June edition of SmackDown.

On SmackDown in Lafayette, the two teams went to battle but in the end, it proved a fairly straightforward night for Rousey and Baszler as they defeated The Unholy Union with both Fyre and Dawn tapping out to end the bout and their reign as NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.
