A new report has shed light on Triple H’s plans for the current WWE Intercontinental Champion heading into WrestleMania 42.

Penta won the Intercontinental Championship by defeating Dominik Mysterio on the March 2, 2026, episode of Monday Night Raw. Since then, he has successfully defended the title twice: first on the March 9 edition of Raw against El Grande Americano, and then again this week against Dragon Lee.

As WrestleMania 42 draws closer, a new update has emerged regarding WWE’s creative direction for him. During a Q&A session on March 16, 2026, WrestleVotes was asked about plans for the Intercontinental Champion at the April show.

Penta Expected To Defend WWE Intercontinental Championship In A “Multi-Man Match” At WrestleMania

The report stated that WWE is expected to book a multi-man match for the title, similar to last year’s event.

“As far as the Intercontinental Title goes, it’s expected to be a multi-man match. The Intercontinental Title has three or four guys in it, much like last year.”

At WrestleMania 41 Night 2, WWE held a Fatal Four-Way match for the Intercontinental Championship. In that bout, Dominik Mysterio defeated Bron Breakker, who was champion at the time, as well as Finn Balor and Penta to capture the title.

If Triple H follows a similar formula this year, Penta could be set to defend his championship in another high-stakes multi-man match on the grandest stage. On the women’s side, AJ Lee is rumored to defend her Intercontinental Championship against Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 42.

On this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, The Geek Goddess successfully retained her title against Bayley. However, the celebration didn’t last long, as a returning Becky Lynch launched a brutal attack on the champion after the match.
