The Men’s WWE roster was hit with two major blows successively as two legends of the business retired from in-ring competition within the span of a month, sending fans into a frenzy.

Following John Cena’s retirement from WWE last year in December, it was expected that AJ Styles would follow his iconic rival into retirement, but nobody thought it’d happen just a month later.

He faced Gunther tonight at the Royal Rumble event and had his career on the line against the Ring General, who choked Styles out to get the win over the Phenomenal One.

Triple H speaks out on AJ Styles’ WWE retirement

Triple H came out in the post-show conference and made his first comments about AJ’s retirement. He also revealed that he had conversations with the Phenomenal One about a potential coaching role in the company.

In this business, there are very few people who are universally loved, universally respected. No matter the wars they’ve had with people, no matter the battles they’ve had in this business, all of that is aside. Almost nobody ever has a bad word to say about AJ Styles. It’s a testament to the human being that he is. When you look at his career, it’s easy to say just in the decade that he was here in WWE alone how big of a career, how impactful of a career, but he’s one of those people I feel like, his influence on this business will be Shawn Michaels-esque,” Triple H said.

The Chief Content Officer was full of praise for AJ Styles as fans wait with bated breath to see what’s next for the former TNA World Champion.
