CM Punk’s Unscripted Promo Led To Huge WWE Match Getting Scrapped
An unscripted promo by CM Punk years ago led to the cancellation of a big match in the WWE.
CM Punk is known to be always outspoken on the microphone, and one of his nicknames is ‘Voice of the Voiceless’ for a reason. Back in 2011, Punk gained immense popularity with his infamous pipe bomb promo, where he went off script. He also targeted the likes of Triple H and Kevin Nash on the mic throughout the summer of that year.
The rivalry between CM Punk and Triple H culminated with them squaring off at Night of Champions 2011, where The Game surprisingly got the win over the Second City Saint. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Punk was originally supposed to face Kevin Nash at the pay-per-view.
CM Punk’s unscripted promo on Triple H led to a massive match getting scrapped
During his interview with Inside The Ropes, Kevin Nash recalled his heated segments with CM Punk from 2011, where Punk was taking shots at him, but he was not allowed to give a rebuttal:
Oh, he — no. I was told specifically not — I could not speak by Vince. And then so I don’t, if I can’t speak, I really don’t care what he’s going to say because I’m not allowed to have any kind of rebuttal. So, he goes out there and buries me.”
But I never understood. So I came out of the crowd and I hit him with a power bomb and Del Rio came down and took his belt. So I cost him to be the world champion. I’m in the ring. He comes out and stands 200 feet away from me on the ramp, on the stage, and walks back and forth and cuts a promo where anybody else would be pi**ed off at me and would come down and charge me,” Nash recalled.
Nash also revealed how CM Punk cut an unscripted promo on Triple H, which angered The Game, and he scrapped the planned match and went ahead to face Punk at Night of Champions 2011 instead:
No. He cut a promo that was not scripted that basically told Paul that if he was looking for his balls, maybe they were in Stephanie’s purse. It wasn’t scripted. Paul got hot. We came back. Paul sat down in the locker room. He looked at me. He goes, ‘I’m so tired of that skinny fat son of a bitch. You’re not wrestling him. I’m beating him.’ And I said, ‘I’m not wrestling?’ He goes, ‘No.’ I said, ‘All right, I’m not wrestling.’” [H/T Ringside News]
