Tony Khan Suggests New Title Could Appear In AEW

Tony Khan at AEW media scrum

Tony Khan has hinted that a newly established title could appear on AEW television.

The newly created IWGP Global Championship will be on the line when Jon Moxley, David Finlay and Will Ospreay meet in a triple threat match at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 in the Tokyo Dome on 4th January.

The new belt has been introduce after the IWGP United States and UK Championship straps were destroyed in a stunning attack by David Finlay at NJPW Power Struggle on 4th November.

Speaking on the ROH Final Battle media call, Tony Khan revealed that he welcomed the idea of the new title being defended on AEW programming:

“I’d certainly be open to having any of New Japan’s great champions defending the title in AEW or ROH or any promotion. I think that’s great. New Japan Pro-Wrestling has a really, really exciting roster, and they have some of the best wrestlers, and we have a really exciting opportunity, going forward, to present, what I believe, is a unified champion across the Triple Crown.

With any New Japan champion, we would certainly welcome them to compete as part of the same spirit of competition and partnership with New Japan. We’re excited about that news and it certainly creates another exciting opportunity in the world of pro wrestling with the great roster New Japan offers.”
