The Rock recently suffered a personal setback outside of WWE.

The former world champion has been turning heads in Hollywood with his performance in The Smashing Machine, where he plays retired MMA star Mark Kerr.

The 53-year-old underwent a significant transition to look the part, which earned him laurels. That, coupled with his acting performance, earned him a Golden Globe nomination for the Best Actor category.

The 83rd edition of the annual awards pitted him against Joel Edgerton, Oscar Isaac, Michael B. Jordan, Jeremy Allen White, and Wagner Moura, who ultimately claimed the honors for his performance in The Secret Agent.

The Rock later acknowledged his loss by sharing a backstage video with his close associates, where he revealed that had he won the award, he would have pulled out a note written to him by his 10-year-old daughter.

Elsewhere, his oldest daughter, Ava, who portrays the general manager on NXT, shared a few pictures of herself, her mother, and The Rock, captioning it, “if you can dream it, you can do it. 🖤 #goldenglobes.”

Incidentally, those are the same words that his daughter had written on the note.

The Brahma Bull subsequently sent love towards Ava with a comment on her post.

The Rock’s ‘Smashing Machine’ Was A Box Office Failure

Even before losing out on the Golden Globe Award, The Rock faced a setback on The Smashing Machine’s earnings, which did not even make up half of the total budget.

Made on a budget of $50 million, the movie earned $21 million.

Despite the box office flop, the Hollywood star was unmoved, admitting that he went to sleep peacefully after the movie opened in theaters.

His last appearance in a wrestling ring was during the 2025 Elimination Chamber, which saw John Cena shockingly turn heel.

While the fans expected The Final Boss to take center stage again, he was nowhere to be seen and has yet to make a return.
