Rumored Lineup For WWE Payback

TJR Wrestling

World Wrestling Entertainment’s next pay-per-view will be Payback on May 1 from the always rowdy AllState Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The rumored card for the event, according to Dave Meltzer’s latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, is as follows:

Please note that (c) refers to the champion/s heading into the match.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles

WWE Women’s Championship: Charlotte (c) vs. Natalya

Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose

Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn

The Wyatt Family vs. League of Nations

The Dudley Boyz vs. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassidy

Becky Lynch vs. Emma

Mark’s reaction: Payback is shaping up to be a better show than WrestleMania. There’s a lot of very good potential matches on this card. Unless Styles ends up walking away with the WWE Title, I feel like Owens vs. Zayn will steal the show. There’s been some great buildup to this match already and we still have three Raw’s left until Payback. Once they finally get to go one-on-one for the first time at a WWE PPV, I think they’ll blow the roof of the place.

Charlotte and Natalya have proven in the past that they could have great matches. Their match for the NXT Women’s Championship in May 2014 was awesome. I’d love to see it replicated on a bigger stage in front of a hot Allstate Arena.

Speaking of a hot Allstate Arena, could you imagine the ovation if Styles won the WWE Championship? The Chicago crowd will likely be booing Reigns heavy, which is why I’m still surprised they ended up pulling the trigger on Reigns vs. Styles. Maybe the Reigns heel turn is actually on the horizon? I’m not too convinced though. I think WWE wants to do something with Roman where he’s more Austin and less Cena; and by that I mean Reigns won’t tell corny jokes and pander to the crowd, but instead will just talk about how much ass he’s going to kick like we saw on Raw.We’ll see. The difference is though that Reigns still isn’t getting cheered, so the heel turn must still be a possibility.

I’m assuming Cesaro and The New Day will also work their way onto the card. Who would you like to see Cesaro and The New Day face at Payback? Which of the rumored matches above are you most looking forward to? Leave any of your thoughts in the comment section below.
