Report: Goldust (Dustin Rhodes) WWE Contract Recently Expired, Free to Work Elsewhere in May

TJR Wrestling

Goldust, aka Dustin Rhodes, is no longer under contract to World Wrestling Entertainment according to Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin. Dustin will turn 50 years old on April 11th.

The report noted that multiple sources noted that Goldust’s WWE deal recently expired and he’s waiting for his 90-day no compete clause to expire before becoming an official free agent. Dustin will apparently be free to work anywhere he wants in May.

If you follow Dustin on social media then you know he’s using the @DustinRhodes name on Twitter after being @Goldust on Twitter for several years.

As for what’s next for Dustin, the obvious next step would be working for All Elite Wrestling since his brother Cody (Rhodes) is one of the guys running the promotion.

AEW has “The Road to Double or Nothing” videos where they teased Dustin possibly appearing in the promotion. There’s a clip where Cody is talking to a seamstress who asks him if she should avoid using the color gold while Cody has said that there’s a “personal” issue with his opponent at Double or Nothing on May 25th.

In July 2018, Goldust underwent double knee surgery, so he’s been out of action resting up and will likely be ready to wrestle again in May when he’s able to do so.

After this report came out, Dustin denied it on Twitter.

TJR Thoughts: Goldust’s history with the WWF goes back to 1995 and he had a lot of stops/starts with the company due to issues out of the ring. For the last decade, he was only used occasionally while looking a lot younger than he actually is when he’s the ring. That’s my way of saying he’s in great for a guy that’s almost 50 years old.

Dustin working for AEW makes a lot of sense since he’s close with his younger brother Cody. I don’t think Dustin would necessarily have to be a wrestler either. He’s a guy with a lot of experience that can work behind the scenes as a Producer, he could help guys with promos and putting together matches too. There’s a lot that Dustin could do there, so it seems like a natural (see what I did there?) for him.
